Compare complete systems for your actual work, not saw prices. Put the saw, suitable rails, power, dust connection, work support and delivered Canadian total on one sheet. A cheaper tool can become the more expensive setup when the missing pieces land in the cart.

This is a purchasing checklist, not a hands-on ranking. These are established product examples checked on October 20, 2026, not new-release announcements. There is no universal dollar total: the useful number is the amount needed to complete your setup with equipment you can actually reuse.

"Kit" does not mean the same thing twice

Makita Canada's SP6000X1 is a corded 120 V, 12 A saw. Its included-equipment list names a 55-inch rail and a 48-tooth blade. That gives you a documented starting package; it does not establish that every accessory you need is included.

Milwaukee Canada's 2831-21 lists an M18 HIGH OUTPUT XC6.0 battery, rapid charger and PACKOUT XL box. Grainger Canada's listing for that exact kit explicitly says the track is not included. A battery kit and a rail kit solve different missing-equipment problems.

Record the complete regional model number. Treat a retailer's extra-rail promotion as a separate bundle whose contents need checking; the photograph is not an inventory.

Choose a starting point

These are our decision rules, not manufacturer performance claims.

Your situation Compare first Cost to settle
Fixed workspace with suitable mains power Corded saw-and-rail package Extraction, support and the rail lengths your projects need
Existing compatible cordless equipment Bare tool against battery kit Whether your actual batteries and charger meet the saw manual's requirements
Frequent full-length sheet work Complete long-rail arrangement One long rail versus shorter rails plus the specified connectors
First system, no extractor or support Full equipment list across systems Everything required before the saw becomes useful in your workspace

An existing battery only saves money if it is suitable and available when the saw needs it. Count shared equipment honestly: a pack permanently occupied by another tool is not free working capacity.

Rail length is not cut length

Festool Canada describes its 55-inch FS 1400/2-LR 32 rail as supporting material up to 49 inches with a Festool plunge saw. That specific example exposes the trap: nominal rail length is not automatically usable cut length. Use the documentation for your chosen pairing.

For an eight-foot panel, price a rail arrangement explicitly suitable for that cut before comparing totals. Also measure where a long rail will live and how it will get home. A setup that fits the cut but cannot fit your vehicle creates another cost.

Milwaukee's 55-inch rail page identifies its compatible M18 FUEL plunge saw and Milwaukee rail accessories. Do not infer cross-brand compatibility from similar-looking profiles. Get confirmation for the exact saw, rail, connectors and clamps.

Build a complete Canadian cost sheet

For each candidate, mark every line included, already owned and compatible, needed now, or optional later.

  1. Exact saw package. Record model number, currency and dated Canadian quotation. Separate the regular package from temporary extras.
  2. Rails and connectors. Include the lengths needed for your longest planned work, the specified joining hardware and any required clamping accessories.
  3. Power. Include suitable batteries and charger for cordless, or any manufacturer-specified power accessories for corded.
  4. Dust collection. Confirm the saw port, hose end and extractor requirements together. Include missing adapters, bags and filters; a hose connection alone does not establish extraction performance.
  5. Blade. Check the supplied blade against the intended material and the saw manual. Include a compatible alternative only when needed.
  6. Work support and protection. Budget the support system and protective equipment required by the manuals for your workspace.
  7. Storage and upkeep. Check rail storage, transport protection and replacement consumables. Keep convenience upgrades in a separate later column.
  8. Delivered total. Add shipping to your postal code and applicable taxes. Confirm long-item delivery terms and whether collection is practical.

Calculate needed-now equipment + delivery + applicable taxes. Keep optional upgrades outside that total, then show them separately. Avoid subtracting a claimed promotion until its terms and availability are confirmed.

The decision that survives the receipt

Choose the complete system that handles your next real projects within your space and budget. A rail square, extra case or second battery can wait if your documented setup does not require it. Missing rail reach, incompatible equipment and unpriced extraction cannot.

Save the quotation, model numbers and compatibility confirmations together. That is a more useful first-track-saw plan than a favourite brand and a saw-only price.

HOLD YOUR GROUND.
